Blessing
A hand-painted oil portrait “Blessing” by the Fart studio. The blessing of the finger.
What the painting shows
The painting shows a wooded mountain landscape seen from above. In the foreground and on the right, dense, bright green deciduous and coniferous trees are painted with short, dabbed strokes. Beyond them lies a sunny yellow meadow or field with two small wooden huts or sheds. On the left there is a rusty brown strip of ploughed earth and a green clearing with a single tree.
The background is a steep slope covered with dark, blue-navy spruce forest that merges into a cool, misty wall. The key moment happens in the top right corner: a bright white-blue beam of light falls from the sky, and from its top a large golden hand emerges with an outstretched index finger, touching the landscape like the hand of God.
The motif is a clear reference to Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam in the Sistine Chapel. The title "Blessing" and the caption "The blessing of the finger" humorously describe heaven anointing an ordinary rural valley.
Technique and style
A horizontal oil painting on canvas in a realistic landscape style, contrasting warm greens and yellows in the foreground with cool blues in the background to create aerial perspective and depth. The trees are painted with a dabbing brush technique similar to the one made popular by Bob Ross. The surreal element, the hand from the sky, combines a classic landscape with humour and religious symbolism.

Fun fact
In The Creation of Adam fresco in the Sistine Chapel, Adam's fingers were most likely not painted by Michelangelo. In the 16th century the plaster in that spot cracked, and the damaged part of Adam's hand was later repainted by Domenico Carnevali. The most famous gesture in art history is partly a restoration.
