Luna the Cat
A hand-painted oil portrait “Luna the Cat” by the Fart studio. A dumb cat, but a pretty one.
What the painting shows
The painting shows Luna, a plump black-and-white cat, sprawled on soft white clouds against a blue sky. The cat has a black head with a white mask on its face, a pink nose, white whiskers and large amber-yellow eyes that look at the viewer with a slightly bored, haughty expression.
Luna's body is round and hefty: a white belly with cream patches, a visible chin fold and a belly flap. She sits in a careless pose, with one hind leg stretched out to the left and the other pushed forward, showing pink paw pads. Black patches on her back and hind leg contrast with the white fur.
The surrounding clouds are fluffy, painted with soft circular brush strokes, and single puffs of cloud drift in the blue sky behind her. The whole thing looks like a portrait of a cat in heaven, which gives it a funny, solemn, slightly angelic feel.
Technique and style
A horizontal oil painting on canvas in the realistic style of an animal portrait, with gentle modelling of fur and light. The clouds are painted Bob Ross style, by blending white paint into a blue base. It is an example of a custom pet portrait that places the animal in a fairy-tale, idealised setting.

Fun fact
The loose, swinging flap of skin on a cat's belly, which many owners think is a sign of being overweight, is actually a normal part of feline anatomy called the primordial pouch. Most cats have one, including slim and wild cats. It probably protects the belly during fights and lets the body stretch further when running and jumping.
